The Round Strathaven 50 (RS50) and 15 (RS15) Charity cycle events are held every August.

The RS50 is a challenging, fun cycle run ideal for both leisure and club cyclists following a route of 50 miles around the Strathaven area through the surrounding villages of Sandford, Glassford, Chapleton and Auldhouse. The growing number of cyclists who take part see the 50 mile route as presenting them with a very worthwhile challenge. The event has also achieved “fame” for the fantastic home baking available at the various village halls for those who want to make a quick “pit-stop”!

There is also the alternative and equally popular RS15, a 15 mile route for those who prefer a lesser but equally worth-while challenge and is ideal for families with younger children. NB : Both events are held on open public roads.

The RS50 was held for the first time in 2002. It has attracted an increasing number of participants each year, and to date has raised over £80,000 for the benefit of both the Strathaven Scouts and Guides and various Charities including Health Help International, and Kasin.

As the event is organised by volunteers and costs are minimised this ensures that almost all the entry fee goes to charity. Participants may choose donate more via an increased entry fee or to raise additional funds for the Charities through sponsorship (sponsor forms can be downloaded from the event website).

Regsitration and start point for both events is from the Kirkland Park Primary School, off Kirkland Park Avenue. The post code for the Sat Nav is ML10 6DY. Free car parking is available in the car park at the top of the George Allan Park off Threestanes Road and at Strathaven Leisure Centre which is also near the school.

Directions to the school: From the traffic lights in the centre of Strathaven, turn westwards into Lethame Road, bear right at the next junction up Threestanes Road and then after rising up with the Park on your right, bear left at the next junction into Kirkland Park Avenue and shortly after turn left into the school. For the car park at George Allan Park instead of turning into Kirkland Park Avenue continue up Threestanes Road and the Car Park is immediately on your right.

Registration takes place in the Kirkland Park Schoolwhere you will be issued with a ride number which must be fixed securely to your bike. For the 50 mile event you can start between 10.00 and 11.00 am and for the 15 miles between 1.00 and 2.00 pm. The start for both will be from the school entrance in Kirkland Park Avenue.

Along the well signposted routes there will be Marshalls at various check points and road crossings who are there to monitor progress and to aid safety. The route is such that it is possible to opt out at any stage and there will be facilities for getting you back to the school.

Refreshments are available on the 50 mile route at the village halls in Sandford (at 20 miles) and Glassford (at 30 miles) and at Skeoch Crossroads for both the 50 mile and 15 mile routes (about halfway round the 15 miles).

The finish is back at the school where further refreshments are available. Please check in with the marshals there and return your ride number to make sure we know you are back safely.
